SOCKS Thrift Store raises money for Save Our Cats and Kittens, a nonprofit cat shelter in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. The organization was founded in 1993 and runs a limited-intake, free-roaming shelter. It places cats and kittens for adoption, provides medical care and leads targeted sterilization of community cat colonies. It has no government contract and is funded by donations, estate bequests, business sponsors, fundraisers, grants and its thrift store sales.
Beyond adoptions, the group takes in cats from crowded area shelters, connects residents with low-cost spay and neuter services, and gives cat food to low-income owners and people who feed cat colonies. The shop is open five days a week. Its name runs in large white letters across the front windows next to a blue cat logo, beneath a black metal facade above red brick.
