Used outdoor gear and bikes are the focus at Thrive, a year-round resale shop in Rapid City run as a ministry of Love INC of the Black Hills. It accepts donations of quality outdoor gear and apparel for biking, hiking, camping, fishing, climbing, hunting, snow sports, water sports and ball sports, but not firearms or knives. The shop is open four days a week, and its name is painted in bold red letters across a front window set into a corrugated metal wall.
The store is also the main site for TRAK (The Resources And Knowledge), a faith-based job skills program for youth ages 14 to 17. Working alongside adult mentors, participants learn bike maintenance, reconditioning, merchandising, customer service and register work, and a youth bike repair ministry meets on Thursday afternoons.
