Sales at A-Z Thrift Shop in Raleigh are the main source of money for the community programs of Assistance League of the Triangle Area, a volunteer group that works with women, children and families. The shop is open four days a week, Wednesday through Saturday. Donors can ask for a furniture pickup, and the organization also sells items through an online store. The shop sits in a red brick building with arched entryways, dark shutters and a sign carrying the Assistance League logo.
Funds from the shop support scholarships for Triangle residents and the Women in Need program for women and families in hard situations. They also pay for one-time emergency help and for comfort items given to children treated in local emergency departments. The league's main program, Operation School Bell, gives new clothing and shoes to thousands of elementary school students across the Triangle.
