The Hugh Chatham Health Thrift Shop in Elkin takes its name from Hugh Chatham Health. That community healthcare system has served residents of northwest North Carolina since 1931. Today it runs more than 20 physician clinics and four urgent care clinics, and its medical group of more than 75 providers works across 24 locations in four counties. Its stated vision is to be the best community healthcare system in the nation, with service as its guiding principle.
In 2025 Hugh Chatham Health officially joined Atrium Health Wake Forest Baptist. That same year the Hugh Chatham Health Foundation received a one-million-dollar grant from The Edward M. Armfield Sr. Foundation. The thrift shop keeps a regular four-day weekly schedule, and its doors open to shoppers in Elkin on those days each week.
