In Elkin, North Carolina, the Goodwill Store and Donation Center sells donated goods and takes in new donations at the same site. The store is run by Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, a local nonprofit, and its sales pay for free job training and career services. It is open seven days a week and stays open into the evening on most days.
The most-needed donations include clothing, shoes, furniture, books, housewares, linens, jewelry, collectibles, records and DVDs, working electronics and computers. Furniture is best dropped off at a retail store like this one. Large appliances, mattresses, paint, building materials and recalled children's items are not accepted, and all donations are tax-deductible. Large blue letters spell out the Goodwill name across the tan brick front, next to a covered archway that cuts through one corner of the building.
