Sales at the Mel Trotter Ministries Thrift Store in Belding pay for the programs of Mel Trotter Ministries, a Christian organization working to end hunger and homelessness in greater Grand Rapids. The store also helps spread the word about that work. It sells donated clothing, shoes, toys, books, furniture, small appliances and household goods. Red letters spell out the name above a row of brown-and-white striped awnings.
Donations come in during set drop-off hours, and a box takes them after hours. A receipt is available for any donation. Large furniture can be picked up from a home or office, and curbside pickup is offered for big items. Mattresses, child car seats, building materials, gas appliances and pianos are not accepted. The store is open six days a week, into the evening, and closed on Sundays.
