Donations come in during set daytime hours. Everything has to be clean, dry, in good condition and sorted into smaller bags and boxes, and unsorted loads in extra-large contractor bags are turned away. For furniture or large collections, local pickup in the shelter van can be arranged if the shop is currently taking those items. Tax-deductible receipts are available on request.
The Mendocino Coast Humane Society runs State of the Ark, and its proceeds cover a large share of the cost of keeping the society's shelter running. The Fort Bragg shop sells clothing, shoes, accessories, linens, records, books, electronics, housewares and furniture, along with vintage and upcycled pieces, and it is open seven days a week. Upholstered sofas and chairs sit out front under a blue sign with the society's dog-and-cat emblem.
