A ministry thrift store, New Beginnings Thrift in Placerville raises money for New Beginnings Gold Country, a Christian nonprofit that runs re-entry services and transitional homes for men and women leaving juvenile hall, jail and prison. Along with funding that work, the store supplies items the ministry needs. Veterans and active-duty service members with proof of service get a discount, and part of each Memorial Day and Veterans Day's proceeds goes to veteran organizations.
Donated clothing, furniture, housewares, collectibles, tools and electronics fill the store, and it also sells through an eBay store. Donations are taken on the six days it is open and not on Sundays, with no home pickup. Vehicles of all kinds are accepted, from cars to boats. A bright red sign band sits above its gray shingled front.
