Every dollar spent at Unity Thrift & Gift Shoppe goes directly to Unity Shoppe, a Santa Barbara nonprofit that has provided food, clothing, school supplies and holiday assistance to residents in need since 1917. The shop is open to the public. Its proceeds fund the programs of Unity's Family Services Center, where referred clients choose their own groceries and essentials instead of receiving pre-packaged goods.
Unity Shoppe accepts in-kind donations of new or like-new items only, and they are collected on weekdays at a separate drop-off site. The store is open six days a week, Sundays included. Out front, a hanging sign with a gold star reads "The Gift Shoppe" beneath the building's red clay tile roofline.
