Every dollar of profit from Tabitha's Place goes to Fortuna Adventist Community Services, first to buy food for its food bank and then to cover other special needs as funding allows. The community thrift store in Fortuna, California, is run by people who give their time so that those in need can be helped. It takes its name from Tabitha, also called Dorcas, a disciple in the Book of Acts who is remembered for the dresses and cloaks she made for widows.
Donations are handled at the Fortuna Adventist Community Services center instead of at the shop, and requests for help go through that center as well. The store opens on weekdays and closes on weekends. Shoppers can pay with cash or with debit and credit cards.
