Everything at the Media Free Store goes home with shoppers at no cost. An all-volunteer group under Transition Town Greater Media runs the store to get the community re-using, re-purposing and recycling things people no longer need, and to keep those goods out of landfills and incinerators. Volunteers staff it, neighbors stock its shelves, and cash gifts from customers and friends cover the rent and operating costs.
Donations come in only during set drop-off hours rather than being left outside the door, and the store keeps guidelines on which items it accepts. It opens on Wednesdays, Saturdays and Sundays and stays open into the evening on at least one of those days. Its entrance is a white glass-paneled door set into a red brick wall.
