Run by Black Hills Habitat for Humanity, the Spearfish ReStore is a nonprofit home goods and building materials outlet whose sales revenue goes directly toward building homes in the community. Its stock comes from donated furniture, home improvement supplies and building materials. Staff pick up items from donors' homes and unload drop-offs at the dock. Before anything reaches the sales floor, donations are cleaned, repaired or assembled, and damaged pieces are recycled.
Wooden dressers, cabinets and a tall armoire fill the floor, with shelves of lamps along the back wall. The store is open five days a week. Individual and group volunteers ages 14 and up work as cashiers, sales support, donation drivers and warehouse help, and that includes people completing community service hours.
