Habitat for Humanity Greater Boston runs this Boston home improvement outlet, which sells donated appliances, furniture, building materials, lighting and home décor. Every sale supports the group's work building affordable homes for local families. The stock changes all the time, and the store keeps more than a million pounds of material out of landfills each year. Rows of wooden dining tables and chairs fill the warehouse floor below a long rack of hanging lamps and light fixtures.
Donations are tax-deductible. People can drop items off at the store or book a home pick-up through ReSupply, a Boston company that works with local movers. Staff check each item's condition and whether the store needs it, and everything must be in working order. The ReStore is open five days a week.
