All proceeds from this donation-stocked shop go directly into the programs Western South Dakota Community Action runs for its clients. The agency has worked in western South Dakota communities since 1965. Its Rapid City thrift store carries clothing, jewelry, bedding and linens, kitchen accessories, appliances, toys and books, along with footwear, cold-weather gear and cookware. The store is open on weekdays and closed on weekends.
Donations go either to the large east-facing garage door or to the front desk in the agency's administrative offices. Items have to arrive during donation hours so staff can sort them and keep the sales floor stocked. Anything left after hours is usually ruined and thrown away. A blue awning hangs over the glass entrance of the white block building, which has a broad red and brown stripe running across it.
