Keeping goods in use and out of the landfill drives everything at Green Scene Thrift in Erie, Pennsylvania. Sales help fund educational programs and workshops in the community. The store has also paid pickup fees for local glass recycling stations, funded City of Erie kindergarten field trips to the Erie Children's Museum, and shipped used eclipse glasses overseas for reuse. Each year it works with Gannon University to collect unwanted items during student move-out week.
Every donation is reused, passed on or recycled, and items the store can't use go to other local nonprofits. The stock runs from everyday household goods to more unusual pieces, and the store hosts Free Friday events through the year. It opens Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, under a green-and-white sign with a shopping cart and leaf.
