Every sale at New Hope Shelter and Thrift Shop helps run the Waynesboro New Hope Shelter. This faith-based Christian nonprofit has offered food and temporary lodging to homeless men, women and children since 1998. The shelter operates year-round and serves about 150 people each year, a third of them children. It also gives every resident encouragement and the tools to find work and permanent housing.
The shop in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania, accepts donated furniture, appliances and clothing. Wooden chairs and a floral upholstered armchair sit on its carpeted sales floor beside tall white shelves stocked with housewares. The thrift shop is open five days a week.
