Circle Thrift has been open since 2004 as an independent nonprofit that shares its profits with Philadelphia community groups, favoring those that support kids and families and fight poverty. Each year it gives grants to local nonprofits and free vouchers to roughly 75 agencies, from shelters to retirement homes. A navy awning with white lettering marks the corner shop, and a rainbow-striped mural runs along its side wall.
Donations are taken during open hours, six days a week including Sundays, at a door shared with its sister shop, Circle Thrift Too. Furniture, clothing, books and records, kitchenware, tools, toys and electronics are accepted, along with textile and shoe recyclables, but mattresses, large appliances and pianos are not. Pickups can also be scheduled.
