Calico Cat Thrift Shoppe sells both new and secondhand merchandise in Middletown, New Jersey, and the money it raises goes to groups that help the homeless and others in need. The shop is run by the Community Outreach Group, Inc., known as COG, and its work reaches well beyond the sales floor.
COG also runs the Calico Cat Cupboard and Pantry, which gives food, clothing and household items to individuals and families at no charge. The group's Emergency Assistance Fund gives one-time help to prevent homelessness and to ease crises caused by low income and poverty. The red brick shop has black window signs with yellow lettering next to a painted calico cat. It is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
