In Asheville, Goodwill Store and Donation Center sells donated goods to fund the skills training, career counseling and youth services of Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, a nonprofit serving the region since 1926. The store is open seven days a week, with evening hours on at least one day. Bright blue Goodwill lettering runs across its red-brick front.
Donations are accepted on site, and they are tax-deductible. The items needed most are clothing, shoes, furniture, books, housewares, linens, jewelry, collectibles, flat-screen televisions and computer equipment. The store does not take large appliances, household mattresses, CRT televisions, paint or chemicals. Through the Dell Reconnect program, it takes computers of any brand and in any condition, either refurbishing them for resale or recycling them.
