In Walkertown, the Goodwill Store and Donation Center sells donated goods and takes in new ones at the same location. It opens seven days a week and stays open into the evening. Its most-needed donations are clothing, shoes, furniture, books, housewares, linens, jewelry, collectibles, media, small electrical goods and accessories such as handbags. Furniture is best dropped off at a retail store like this one. Recalled products, large appliances, mattresses, paint and broken electronics are turned away, but computers of any brand and in any condition are accepted for recycling.
The store is run by Goodwill Industries of Northwest North Carolina, a nonprofit founded in 1926. Sales here pay for free job training, career counseling and youth services, and donations are tax-deductible.
