Proceeds from this Waynesville community thrift store support the ongoing work of Haywood Christian Ministry, a nonprofit working toward healthy, stable, hunger-free communities. The shelves carry clothes, appliances, books, blankets and more, and every donation is sorted before it goes out. Torn or stained clothing is recycled, broken electronics are scrapped, and books with missing pages stay off the shelves. The low building has blue-and-white trim, with blue railings along its front walk.
The store is open on weekdays. Its aim is to give every neighbor the dignity of shopping for themselves and choosing from the best on hand. Anyone who cannot afford what they need can get a voucher through the ministry's Somers Resource Center, then shop like any other customer and pay with that coupon.
