Sales at Second Season Thrift Store pay for the Neighborhood Pantry next door. The pantry works as a free grocery store where neighbors facing food insecurity pick out their own groceries. Long's Chapel Methodist Church sponsors both, and volunteers handle most of the work. The pantry gives out more than 200,000 pounds of food a year and serves about 500 people each week. Second Season continues the work of The Open Door & Second Blessing Thrift Store, which was founded in 1996.
Donated goods for the thrift store or the pantry are accepted at the Waynesville building, which is open four days a week. The pantry most needs canned goods, pasta, rice, cooking staples, seasonings, coffee, snacks and toiletries. The long cream-sided building has a row of white garage doors under a sign with a green-leafed tree logo.
