In Pittsboro, the thrift shop run by Second Bloom of Chatham raises money for a nonprofit that provides advocacy, support services and resources to survivors of intimate partner violence, sexual violence and human trafficking. Every purchase, donation and volunteer hour goes toward those survivor services. The shop sits beneath a green-and-cream striped awning and is open five days a week.
Donations focus on adult wear: in-season clothing for women and men, along with shoes, boots and sandals, purses, wallets, jewelry, scarves, belts and hats in good condition. The shop cannot take out-of-season or children's clothing, men's suits, or anything stained, torn or heavily worn. Used underwear, bras and socks are also turned away, though new pieces with tags are welcome.
