A project of The Arc Otsego, the Otsego ReUse Center in Oneonta, New York, supports a culture of reuse alongside vocational training. Its stock centers on building materials, furniture, housewares, decor and kitchen appliances, all offered to the general public while keeping usable goods out of the waste stream. The center works with contractors, homeowners, customers and community members across the region.
The store is open five days a week. Donations are taken at the main building, and staff approve every item on site. That building has red metal siding under a white upper story, with planters and baskets set out beneath its covered porch. The center also runs recycling programs for polystyrene, fluorescent bulbs, books, paint and plastic film.
