In Whittier, the Union Rescue Mission Thrift Store raises money for Union Rescue Mission, a Christian nonprofit that serves people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. Store sales pay for shelter, healthcare, job training and paths to living-wage jobs. Some donated goods also go straight to the guests and families staying in the mission's shelters.
The racks hold clothing for the whole family, vintage pieces and brand-new fashion donated by the clothing industry. The store also sells furniture, decor, art, shoes, bags, jewelry, books and collectibles. Donations can be dropped off at the store during drop-off hours, or a pickup can be scheduled. The doors are open seven days a week, and the bright orange front has "Thrift & Boutique" in large white letters.
