Every sale at the Bargain Box Thrift Store in San Clemente funds the philanthropic programs of Assistance League of Capistrano Valley, an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit founded in 1977. Member volunteers staff and manage the shop, and it is the league's main source of revenue. That money supports Links to Learning grants for Capistrano Unified School District educators, new school clothing for low-income families through Operation School Bell, and I.N.S.P.I.R.E. scholarships for single parents.
The league also works with other local Assistance League chapters on a joint program for families serving at Camp Pendleton. Anyone donating furniture can ask for it to be picked up. The store is open five days a week, and a bright blue awning with the league's red-starred logo and the store's name runs across its white front.
