In Visalia, the VEA Thrift Store raises money for the Visalia Emergency Aid Council, a nonprofit working against hunger since 1931. Every purchase helps fund the council's food pantry, homelessness assistance, Seniors Helping Seniors and other programs run through its Family Assistance Center. Volunteers manage and staff the store, and it also serves as a job training site where they learn cashiering, customer service, retail and warehouse work.
The store is open seven days a week and takes donations daily, with free pick-ups available. It welcomes clothing, household goods, jewelry, home décor, collectibles, furniture and seasonal items, but it can't take mattresses, large appliances, TVs, cribs, sofa beds or chemicals. Out front, a black-and-red sign with a red umbrella logo stands before a tan metal building.
