A nonprofit secondhand shop, Calexico Thrift Store is run by the Calexico Wellness Center, the organization behind a nonprofit clinic for local residents whose healthcare needs go unmet. The store provides low-cost merchandise to people in need and gives used goods a second life. Clothing makes up much of the stock, new items arrive every week, and the store ships purchases anywhere in the U.S. It accepts donations of goods as well as money.
The store also works with the Calexico Needs Change Coalition and the Brown Bag Coalition on a community refrigerator. Anyone can take the food they need there and leave some for others. Out front, a blue sign in English and Spanish names the shop as both a thrift store and a "tienda de segunda." It is open weekdays and closed on weekends.
