In El Centro, WomanHaven Thrift Store has been run since 1992 by WomanHaven, A Center for Family Solutions. All net proceeds support survivors of domestic violence through the organization's emergency shelter, counseling and related programs. Clients and their children receive free clothing and help setting up households, and vouchers go out through churches, community centers, homeless shelters and family resource centers.
The racks and shelves hold clothing for women, men and children, along with toys, sports equipment, furniture, refurbished computers, decor and paintings, shoes and handbags, jewelry, linens, housewares and small electronics. Tuesdays bring a senior discount, Fridays a military discount and Saturdays a student discount. Tax-deductible donations of clothing, furniture, cash and more are accepted, and pick-ups can be scheduled. The store is closed on Sundays.
