In Turlock, the Sacred Heart Thrift Shop has funded tuition assistance for children at Sacred Heart School since 1971. That is its only purpose: helping families who otherwise might not be able to afford a Catholic education at the school, which is part of Sacred Heart Parish. So far the shop has given more than one million dollars in assistance to the school.
Volunteers run the shop, and it depends on the support of the school's parents, grandparents and friends. It is open five days a week. The shop's name runs in white script across a bright blue awning above the front windows, and wicker chairs sit out along the walk.
