Every sale at the Hospice Shop in Yreka, California, supports the Madrone House, a place where people spend their final days cared for by professional nursing staff alongside family and friends. The shop is run by Madrone Hospice, a non-profit that also offers hospice and palliative care, grief support and senior services. Volunteers do most of the staffing, so all proceeds go to the Madrone House.
The shop occupies a historic building downtown and sells secondhand and collectible goods. Its sister shop, the Heartisan Boutique, carries handmade goods. Inside, lace curtains hang in the tall front windows, and brass sconces line the walls between them. This hospice thrift store is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
