In Truckee, Yardsale & Co. is run as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps North Tahoe residents with housing needs. Its larger goal is to buy, restore and provide housing for the local workforce, and it works closely with Sierra Community House. Since opening in December 2023, the store has given funds, bought needed home items and placed free furniture with 75 families, individuals and local nonprofits.
All stock comes from donations, which are accepted during store hours six days a week, Sundays included. Tax forms are provided, and each drop-off is limited to two bags or boxes. Welcome items include home goods, small furniture, artwork, lamps, mirrors, holiday decor, yarn, clothing, games, toys and gardening pots, but electronics are not accepted. House clean-outs bring in more furniture, and work by local makers is sold alongside the donations.
