Open six days a week and closed on Sundays, the thrift store at Nancy's Hope Community Center in Sonora brings in new merchandise every week, and shoppers who come in weekly get first look at it. Donations of quality items keep it stocked, and the money from every sale goes to the center's work as a non-profit serving the local community.
That money supports a food pantry for hungry people, families and children. It also pays for Back To School Backpacks, a Blanket and Coat Giveaway, Compassion Closet, Dress 4 Success and Fresh Start. The center offers volunteer positions for residents who want to give back. On the blue-carpeted sales floor, wooden cabinets and tables are filled with dishes, glassware, lamps and arrangements of artificial flowers.
