Opportunity House, a community-based nonprofit working to end homelessness, runs this Fairfield thrift store. The shop raises money for that work and gives the community a direct way to take part in it. It is open six days a week and closed on Sundays. Donations are accepted during set hours, and the store keeps a current list of the items it takes. Special sales and deals of the day run on a regular basis.
Long rolling metal racks filled with rows of shoes and boots stretch across part of the sales floor. The store also welcomes volunteers. The nonprofit behind it focuses on helping women, men, families and transitional-age youth break the cycle of homelessness by working with others and connecting people to community resources.
