Open seven days a week and into the evening on at least one day, The Force Exchange accepts donations of "anything that runs, crawls, or creeps" and turns them into income for youth programs. Its racks carry vintage clothing, streetwear, designer bags, shoes and accessories chosen by its youth team. The store also prints its own original designs and sells them online.
The nonprofit Youths Without Drugs Force Inc. runs the shop as a training ground for teens 16 and older who are moving from addiction recovery into careers. Sales fund its transitional work program, its Alpha Curriculum and job placement with employers across Silicon Valley. Out front, small appliances, fans and coolers line the sidewalk under rows of hanging graphic tees and jerseys.
