Clothing, housewares and furniture fill the shelves at St Thomas Thrift Shop in Wharton, a ministry of St. Thomas' Episcopal Church. Profits from sales go to the church's Outreach Ministry. Volunteers staff the shop and serve as representatives of the parish in the community. It opens on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays, and browsers are welcome along with shoppers.
The shop asks that donations be dropped off on Wednesdays. For furniture or other items that need to be moved, donors can call the shop to arrange help. Mattresses, box-style tube televisions, computers and computer accessories are not accepted. The low cream-colored building has a tall brick chimney rising from its front, and a roadside sign names it the Thrift Shop & Outreach Center.
