In Victoria, Texas, Gleanings Resale Shop is run by Restoration House Ministries, and the money from its sales helps fund the Restoration House for women. The shop takes donations of all kinds, including clothing, household goods, furniture, appliances, sporting goods and even automobiles, whatever their condition. Inside, a long sales floor under a corrugated metal roof holds glass shelves of glassware, vases and jewelry beside a kitchenware section.
Donated items also go back out to people in need through local churches, schools and homeless shelters, and some help families facing great loss. Each winter, every coat and blanket that comes in is given away. Anyone who is homeless or staying in a shelter or halfway house can pick out clothes and shoes for free and take a shower at "Showers of Grace." The shop is open five days a week.
