Higgins South sells clothing for every season along with household goods, strollers, baby equipment, toys, bicycles, small kitchen appliances, serving and mixing utensils, table settings and flatware. Open six days a week and closed Sundays, the shop takes donations of household items, furniture and appliances. Workers and volunteers sort every donated item, then resell, recycle or redistribute it, and some donations ship overseas through a partnership with Rotary International.
Faith Mission and Help Center, an ecumenical Christian nonprofit founded in Brenham in 1985, runs the store. Its sales pay for emergency food, clothing and shelter, job training classes, scholarships toward higher education and jobs on the organization's campus. A large red sign with white lettering spells out the Higgins name above the entrance.
