Every sale at The Cranny in Seguin, Texas, funds Thriving Hearts Crisis Center, formerly Guadalupe Valley Family Violence Shelter, which provides safety, comfort and hope to survivors of abuse. Members of the community donate all of the merchandise, and all of the proceeds go to the center's shelter and support services.
Not every donation reaches the sales floor, because shelter clients also get clothing and household goods from the store as they make a fresh start. Donations are taken Tuesday through Saturday but never on Mondays. The store turns away mattresses, broken furniture, sleeper couches and large appliances such as refrigerators and stoves. The store's name runs in bold purple letters across its white peaked front. The store is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
