In Elberta, Alabama, Mary's Shelter Gulf Coast Thrift Store raises money for Mary's Shelter Gulf Coast, which houses young mothers and prepares them for a productive life on their own. Sales fund that work, and donated goods also reach local families at low cost. The store is open five days a week.
Donations of clean, usable clothing, furniture, household goods and toys are accepted Tuesday through Saturday during set midday drop-off hours. The store asks that nothing be left after hours so volunteers have time to process items and reset the sales floor. Volunteer teams staff the store, and others pick up larger donations such as furniture. Framed artwork hangs along the walls above racks of clothing, and furniture like a wooden roll-top desk sits out on the floor.
