Every sale at Nu-Hope Thrift Shop in Lake Placid helps pay for services for local seniors run by NU-HOPE Elder Care Services, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. The shop sells donated furniture, clothing, household goods and working appliances. Volunteers sort donations, stock shelves and help with sales, and those 55 and older can sign up through the AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP program, though younger helpers are welcome too. A black sign with a diamond-shaped NH logo runs above the front windows, and a white-railed ramp leads up to the entrance.
Garden items, tools, antiques, collectibles, towels and linens are also accepted, along with clean, stain-free clothing. Donations should come in during store hours, six days a week with Sundays closed. NU-HOPE can sometimes pick up larger pieces, and it takes cars, trailers, boats and sheds case by case.
