Each purchase at Nifty Thrifty helps fund the Mason County Senior Activities Association, which owns and operates the local senior activities center. The shop is the nonprofit's main source of money. Its stock includes clothing, books, fabrics, housewares and electronics, all from local donations. Higher-value books, jewelry and collectibles are sold online through eBay. The store is open six days a week and closed on Sundays.
Donations are accepted Monday through Thursday and on Saturdays. They should be bagged or boxed, and donors are asked to call first because intake depends on how much the store can handle. The building has a blue metal roof, and its sign carries a golden sunburst logo. The association started the store in 1988 so the center could pay its own way, and in 2013 the shop moved into the center's former building.
