The Henderson ReStore is run by Habitat for Humanity of Henderson, Ky, and sells donated home decor, furniture, beds, tools, doors and appliances. Money from its sales stays local. It pays for the ReStore's operations and for Habitat's home-building work in the community, where the group has built 92 homes. A single purchase can go toward painting a whole house or buying windows for the next Habitat home.
Donations can be picked up for free on weekdays. To schedule a pickup, donors send a message with photos of their items, and a ReStore associate follows up. Businesses, churches and schools replacing old furniture can also get help clearing it out. The store is open five days a week.
