Columbus-Lowndes Habitat for Humanity runs this resale store, which opens to shoppers Wednesday through Friday. Donations come in on more days than the store is open: drop-offs are accepted Monday through Friday, so items can be brought in on Mondays and Tuesdays even though the sales floor is closed. Above the entrance of the cream brick building, a sign reading "ReSale Store" carries the Habitat logo under a gray metal roof.
The affiliate behind the store was started in May 1989 by local volunteers who were concerned about people living in substandard housing. It has since built more than 50 homes for qualified families. Those families are chosen based on need, their ability to pay an affordable mortgage and their willingness to partner, and they work alongside volunteers to build their own homes.
