In Aiken, the SPCA Albrecht Center for Animal Welfare runs this boutique thrift shop, and all of its sales revenue goes back to the center to feed, treat and shelter the animals in its care and find them homes. The store carries pet care items, clothing, jewelry, furniture, books and tea sets, and a bright yellow sign with a black paw print hangs above its entrance.
Donations come in Monday through Saturday through the front door or at the rear loading dock, and the store is closed on Sundays. Larger pieces can be collected through a free pickup service, and donors receive a tax receipt. Accepted goods range from bicycles and hand tools to toys, media and flat-panel televisions. A loyalty program at the register rewards repeat shoppers with points and offers sent by text.
