Clothing, furniture and household goods are for sale at Hope Thrift in Kalispell, Montana, which is open six days a week and closed on Sundays. All proceeds help fund shelter, meals and recovery programs run by A Ray of Hope, a Christian nonprofit that also operates a men's shelter and Peggy's House, a shelter for women and children.
The store is also a training ground. Residents of A Ray of Hope give back two hours of work a day there, learning job skills and how to budget their expenses. The work follows the organization's motto, "a hand up, not a hand out." The shop sits in a long, arched building of white corrugated metal with its name lettered in red across the sign.
