Job training and paid work for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities are at the heart of Special Finds Resale Boutique in Kodiak, Alaska. The store is a Christian business that exists to serve Christ in the community. It was planned in 2022 as a branch of Special Friends, a ministry that began in 2018 with weekly gatherings for teens with special needs at Berean Baptist Church.
The resale store fills a gap for adults who have finished high school or aged out of Life Skills programs, offering them daily purpose, new skills and a chance to find their own talents. A board of directors drawn from local churches oversees the business. Open five days a week, the shop sits in a bright yellow building with wooden decks and a white picket fence.
