Elko's Ruby Mountain Resource Center runs two shops side by side. One is a thrift store with furniture, toys, housewares, books and electronics. The other is a boutique for men's, women's and children's clothing and shoes, plus jewelry and accessories. On the thrift floor, dishes, teapots and glassware fill wooden rolling carts and white shelving. The boutique also sells handmade pot holders, hair ties, key chains and other crafts made by people in the center's Day Habilitation program.
The store takes donated goods, and its doors are open seven days a week. The center is a licensed Nevada 501(c)(3) nonprofit. Most of its employees are adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and job coaches support them through a Pre-Vocational training program built around independence and meaningful work.
