Open five days a week, Tuesday through Saturday, The Center Square Thrift Shop in Belmar raises money for The Center in Asbury Park, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit. All profits from its sales go straight to The Center's work. Since the shop opened in 2015, it has become a key source of income for that mission.
More than 1,000 donations come in each year, adding up to over 5,000 items for the sales floor. The store runs entirely on volunteers: a team of 40 who together give more than 700 hours every month. Out front, a black awning carries a white clothes-hanger logo topped with a small red heart, set into a brick-and-stucco building on Main Street.
