Donated goods fill this Roxbury Township store and donation center, and the proceeds fund programs that help people with disabilities and disadvantages find work, gain independence and build careers. Goodwill NYNJ, a social enterprise serving Greater New York and Northern New Jersey, runs the location. Wire shelves stacked with plates, bowls and mugs line its front windows.
Donations are accepted on site, and the doors are open seven days a week. Because the inventory comes from donations, reselling it keeps unwanted goods out of landfills. Shoppers can earn loyalty points toward rewards in stores. The model goes back more than 100 years, to when the organization's founders collected donated goods and hired people facing barriers to employment to sell them.
